Persimmon Homes (North West) Ltd were operating from premises in Sandbach, Cheshire, that were too small for their expanding operations and unsuitable for extension. They had obtained an outline planning approval for a new single office building on a nearby brownfield site in Sandbach that they owned and were seeking to appoint an architect to design and obtain full planning permission for two office buildings on the site, one for owner occupation and the other for rent.
VWB Architects were appointed in 2002 to take the project up to the preparation of working drawings, including advising on the schedule of accommodation, preparation of sketch and final designs, obtaining full Planning Permission (January 2003), and the preparation of technical drawings to obtain Building Regulations approval (July 2003) and production information for construction. Persimmon Homes with their construction experience in housebuilding, organised and managed the construction phase.
The site was part of a much larger brownfield site and with a prominent frontage onto a main route into Sandbach would provide an important visual presence for the occupiers. The two office buildings are sited just back from the pavement line in keeping with the general street scene. Both buildings are two storey with a useable roofspace providing gross floor areas of 900m2 and 600m2. There is ample on site car parking.
